Schlägl, 6. Juli 2002, ca 02:05 UT: Wirbelbildungen am Westrand der NLC! Verfolgen Sie die Entwicklung des großen Wirbels im oberen Wolkenabschnitt (siehe nächstes Bild)! Längere Zeit traten während der Beobachtung auch Zweifel an der Realität dieser Leuchtenden Nachtwolke auf. Einerseits zeichneten sich zu Beginn der Sichtbarkeit die für eine NLC oft so typischen Wellen und Bänder nicht deutlich ab, zum anderen irritierte die große Höhe der Wolke über dem Horizont. Allerdings erschienen bald echte Cirren, die rasch nach Osten abzogen, während die NLC eine langsame Bewegung nach Westen zeigte. Der Cirrus im unteren linken Bildrand ist bereits leicht rötlich (Morgendämmerung), während die NLC bläulich in Erscheinung tritt. 

Observe the developement of the whirls and compare with the next images! At the beginning of my observation I was doubtful about the reality of this NLC! On the one hand the typical waves and bands of Noctilucent Clouds did not appear very clearly and on the other hand I was doubtful about the vertical extension. Some cirrus clouds showed the reality of the observed NLC soon - they were a little bit reddish because of the morninglight and moved  eastwards quickly. NLC-structures appeared in a soft blue.
